Toast POS Pricing (2026): Plans, Payroll Bundle, Hardware and What Toast Doesn't Publish

Toast pricing at a glance

Toast's US restaurant pricing page lists four ways to buy (checked Oct 2026):

Starter Kit: from $0/month. For single-location restaurants that need 1–2 terminals. Hardware kit with no upfront cost; configuration is 1 location and up to 2 terminals.

Point of Sale: from $69/month. A monthly software subscription with flat-rate processing; you choose your own hardware.

Build Your Own: custom pricing. The full platform, with options such as perpetual inventory, integrated payroll and tips, employee scheduling, and guest marketing, loyalty and gift cards.

POS + Payroll bundle for new restaurants: from $69/month + $9 per employee a month (shown as down from $90). Everything in Point of Sale plus payroll essentials and basic scheduling.

Toast's footnote says the pricing applies to new customers and single locations only. Retail (convenience, grocery, liquor) Point of Sale starts at $90/month.

What the starting price doesn't include

Card processing. Toast describes its processing as a simple flat rate, but the rate isn't on the pricing page. Toast says it is a payment facilitator that partners with processors. Ask for the in-person, keyed-in and online rates in writing.

Hardware and installation. Toast's FAQ says the upfront costs are hardware and implementation, and they vary by hardware package and installation needs; 0% financing is available by application. The Starter Package also has a Pay-as-You-Go option that lowers upfront hardware and installation costs through an all-in-one platform rate (not published).

Extra devices. Toast's own cost guide notes that additional devices may carry separate software subscriptions, so price every terminal and handheld.

Add-on suites. Online ordering (Digital Storefront Essentials or Pro), Marketing Essentials (email marketing, loyalty, gift cards), Team Management Essentials (Toast Scheduling Pro and Tips Manager), Payroll Essentials or Pro, xtraCHEF Essentials or Pro (invoice automation, food cost analytics, recipe costing and inventory) and Restaurant Management Essentials or Pro are listed in the comparison chart; prices for most add-ons come with your quote.

Integrations. Connecting outside apps has a cost: 7shifts' Toast setup guide says Toast charges $50/month per location for access to integration options.

Hardware: Toast-only, with a 60% promo through 2026

Toast says its services work only on approved Toast hardware, so you can't bring your own tablets or terminals. Toast's pricing page was advertising 60% off Toast hardware: the promo terms say new SMB and retail customers in the US (fewer than 15 restaurant locations, signing up through Toast's small and midsize business channels) who sign a first Toast order form on or before December 31, 2026 get a one-time 60% discount on hardware in that first order. It applies to hardware only and can be changed or canceled by Toast at any time (checked Oct 2026).

Example monthly costs from published numbers

Starter Kit, 1 location: $0/month software, plus your quoted card rate on every sale.

Point of Sale: from $69/month, plus hardware, extra devices, add-ons and processing.

POS + Payroll bundle with 15 employees: $69 + (15 × $9) = $204/month before hardware, add-ons and processing.

Adding 7shifts for scheduling: 7shifts Essentials is about $40/month per location billed annually, plus Toast's $50/month integration access, so about $90/month on top of Toast. Toast's own basic scheduling is included with Toast POS (see 7shifts vs Toast Scheduling).

To compare against Square or Clover, multiply your monthly card sales by each quoted rate, add the per-payment cents times your number of payments, then add software and hardware.

What's included with every Toast subscription

Toast lists 24/7/365 Toast Care by phone or web messaging at no additional cost, offline mode (keep placing orders, printing tickets and receipts and taking card payments until you're back online), installation and network configuration, and automatic software upgrades as available (checked Oct 2026).

Questions to ask Toast before you sign
